Embedded in Attenhaus village life, the residential house was built in approx. 1850. Around the turn of the century Max Merk with his wife added on the wagon-makers’ workshop.
His son Cyprian Merk and wife Scholastika extended the building. Along with wagon wheels for hand carts, fire service pumps or agricultural devices, for example, sidecars for motorbikes were also manufactured.
In the lean war years there was a great demand for skis; Cyprian Merk almost couldn’t keep pace with production.
In the course of the continuing spread of automobiles, the production range of the wagon-makers changed. Together with a forger the most diverse handles were now being manufactured ... (please click on the photos to enlarge).

... whether hammer, axe or rake handles, the quality from Attenhausen was in high demand. (even today we still have a wide collection of handles).

Maria Merk, their daughter, married the Cartwright, Josef Katheiniger and both continued with the wagon-makers. Drink boxes, pallets and sledges are only part of the expanded production.

After the business was discontinued in 2000 all buildings were empty until we purchased them in 2003. Right from the very beginning it was our aim to maintain the charm of the estate and to equip it with a regenerative energy concept..

In early summer 2007 it was possible to move into the original house. In 2010 kirschenfee was opened in the former workshop and the timber yard.
