Lower Allgaeu is the district with the highest number of cattle in the whole federal territory. (which doesn’t mean that most people who live here are as daft as the cows)

Only three kilometres away from Attenhausen lies the birthplace of the founder of Kneipp therapy – Father Sebastian Kneipp. The topics here revolve around health, relaxation and wellbeing. Therefore wind down a gear and forget hectic everyday life.

Right across Lower Allgaeu there are two very popular pilgrimage routes: the road to Santiago, running mostly along the Kneipp hiking route and Crescentiaweg from Kaufbeuren to Mindelheim and Ottobeuren. The well-developed trails combine with each other testimonials worth seeing from Swabian baroque.

Our recommendations for the local surroundings:
One of Europe’s largest monastery complexes is located in Ottobeuren, the Benedictine Abbey with its baroque basilica.

Far over the borders of Allgaeu, the legendary basilica and emperor’s hall concerts are famous and popular.

The Swabian farm museum Illerbeuren invites you to pay a visit and take a tour through the history of Swabia. With over 30 buildings from four centuries Allgaeu’s past comes alive.

Memmingen, the city of gates and towers, gables and facades, lies approx. 20 kilometres away from kirschenfee. You will be confronted everywhere with testimonials to the 800 year empiric history. (Two circuits lead to sights and idyllic angles)

The natural thermal bath in Bedernau can be identified through a thermal spring with special healing qualities. The thermal bath is a natural adventure pool, which is second to none.

The municipality of Rot an der Rot lies on the upper Swabian baroque road between Biberach and Memmingen. Those wishing to get to know Rot better can follow the tracks

of the old monastery village on „Mönchsrother Path“. From the former monastery church there is a path leading over the economic estate to the brotherhood church of St. Johann in Haslach valley. The history of the monastery village is reconstructed on 24 wall charts.

Mostly we combine this excursion with a shopping trip to Uhl mill in Haslach. The various types of flour and muesli are ground in the historic mill. Only grain from the surrounding districts is processed here.

Öchsle-rail: the 750 mm railway between Ochsenhausen and Warthausen was one of five narrow gauge railways in the royal Wuerttemberg state railway with which country areas were connected to the „big, wide world“. Up until 1964 the Öchsle transported generations of schoolchildren, workers, farmers and housewives through the countryside. Then it was forced to succumb to modern car traffic. However, the narrow gauge railway had too many friends: it was given a new lease of life as a rolling museum.
